“Only way to create world peace… is for each person to have peace in themselves” Matt

Today I am grateful to chat with Matt Tenney. Matt has an incredible story, and you are going to love hearing about it. Matt is the author of two awesome books Serve to Be Great and his new book The Mindfulness Edge.

Matt comes from Nashville, TN and works with companies and groups to develop highly effective leaders who achieve lasting success by inspiring greatness in the people around them. Matt knows effectively serving others is the key to true greatness.

I was blown away by Matt’s story and who he was in that moment. Walking in the emotion of mindfulness frames who he is. Matt and I have similar paths in life with writing and speaking and learning and sharing.

Matt wanted to be a pilot and joined the Marine Corps as an officer after college. He gave up his flying contract, so he wouldn’t have to be in the military for 12 years. While serving at Camp Pendleton, he discovered a way to get unauthorized money from the military. Having a plot to steal 3 million dollars is a great way to end up in a military prison.

While Matt was confined, he discovered mindfulness, and his mission to alleviate suffering and unhappiness began. He discovered that the best way for peace is for individuals to have peace in themselves. He also discovered the best way to serve others is to share this message through businesses, organizations and thought leaders.

Here’s a quick breakdown of topics

  • How Matt enjoys time rather than things, he has never owned a television.
  • Why stealing 3 million dollars from the Government is a bad idea
  • He discovered mindfulness in prison and made it his goal to transform the prison into a monastery
  • What are the two components of the monastic ideal
  • People of influence can develop qualities to permanently end suffering

The Mindfulness Edge

Matt believes that practicing mindfulness is living from moment to moment, and the attitude of curiosity and openness without judgement is all we need to do to grow with mindfulness.

“That permanent end is when every single person has unconditional happiness" - Matt

We know we are doing great things, so we move forward doing them” - Tim

Today we talk with a truly inspiring dude. Tim Rhode is the founder of 1Life Fully Lived and the co-founder of Gobundance. When I met Tim, I knew instantly we would be friends.

He started out as a grocery clerk, but went on to crush it in real estate. He has sold over 2500 homes, and real estate has provided him with the income to live his dreams and follow his passions.

Tim’s passions include climbing mountains and back-country skiing. He believes in creating vision, living within his means, and establishing core principles to get what he wants. Tim and his community are truly inspiring. I’ll get to see that first hand when I speak at the upcoming 1Life Fully Lived event.

“I'm just so fired up about learning how to make an impact through whatever that vehicle is." - Jon Berghoff

On today’s show I speak with one of my best buddies in the whole world, Mr. Jon Berghoff from Flourishing Leadership Institute. He will be presenting at the Speaker Trainer Experience this March. In December he hosted the Best Year Ever Blueprint with Hal Elrod. It was attended by more than 330 people from 13 different countries.

We have a lot of fun stuff today, and I’m super excited to talk with Jon. He is someone who has been there from the beginning for me and the Front Row Factor. In 2005 when things were just getting started, Jon gave me a check for $8888.88. This meant more to me than money, because it meant he believed in the cause.

He has served on the board, as a volunteer, and he is an amazing fundraiser. He has been instrumental since day one, and he is one of the best friends I have. He even met his wife at my house, and I officiated at his wedding. Jon was the head of sales at Vitamix and achieved great success using the appreciative inquiry method.

Jon believes in the power of positivity, and feels it is a great honor to have a really large impact on organizations and high-level entrepreneurs. Jon will be continuing his work and his message of collaboration with the Speaker Trainer Experience. The experience will be held in San Diego March 24 through March 26, 2016.

There will be awesome speakers, and Jon is excited to serve. It’s amazing how he is adaptable to co-creating and watching people have breakthroughs, yet manages to follow an agenda. Jon loves the feedback of someone saying that this mattered, and my life will never be the same again. These are some of my favorite parts of the training. It is going to be amazing.

Enjoying the show?  For iTunes listeners, get automatic downloads and share the love by Subscribing, rating & reviewing here!

Today’s topics include:

  • Learn about Jon’s back row to front row story
  • How being driven by values can give the confidence to serve
  • How to make a difference in the world with the core principals of to learn and to teach
  • What is The Speaker Trainer Experience coming up in March
  • Find out great moments from the last Speaker Trainer Experience

To Jon, living a front row life means figuring out what allows those around him to fully come alive. One tip for being fully alive is to go find nature, allow silence and find time to think.

If you would like to know more about the Speaker Trainer Experience sign up for our free webinar that will be held on February 12th, at 3:00 pm Eastern Time.

We will discuss mapping out your content and how to enter the world of your audience. We want to teach you how to inspire action and tell intimate stories in a way that connects with your audience.

This event will super charge your impact from a speaking platform. If you have any issues with anything email Jon@frontrowglobal.com.
